surat- in love with tthe city of diamonds...

Bol Surat Bol
gone are those days..........
people have changed, gods worshipped have changed, no. of stars seen in sky have changed, i have changed you have changed everything has changed, then why why surat lag behind.....times have gone by and many new cultures have come up in the once so called sleepy port town of south gujarat. it has now turned to be the state's most cosmopolitan city emerging as the capital of money..let's look into some changes quite noticeable to elder generation of people -

the gone bys its in
-finding the everyday needs from exclusive brand collections at iskon or
crowded 'shanivaari' and city area markets. shopping from vishal big bazaar and the likes

-having a sip of tea with colleagues when tired enjoying the ambience with 'RICH' crowd to
at any of the stalls at SVR,athwa or varaccha have a hundred rupee coffee at CCD,CC or
brewers.

-taking girlfriend to a nearby garden zoom in a luxurious car to dumas or r highways nearby

-movies both new and old at kinnary or push back, pop corns, games, food, a whole
moti talkies road day at multiplxes

-undhiyu puri and jalebis-hot favorites for pizzas, subs, burgers club sandwiches
any occassion.. and hukkahs.

-ghaari, and suttarfeni to enlighten the monginis cakes, S&S brownies, chocolates
taste buds also lack to delight you

-a challenge to cross ring road in five minutes a pride in seeing the flyover never end
while you even reach destination

-early morning fafdas, khaman and farsan late night junk at bismillah and surroundings

-a month long kite flying festival starting a two day kite festival with leftover crackers
in december of diwali and DJ dance at night

-gujarati dramas at gandhi bhavan english DJ in hotels

-garba in every society free for all and in the open garba in Air conditioned halls, for few,
,traditional songs hindi songs

-traditional methodology of schooling international schools with state of art infra

-"happy new year" somewhere in OCT-NOV "merry christmas and happy new year" - 31st DEC

.......but somethings never change
all this has changed the life of a 'surati' but there are somethings which no one can change......lets analyze if all agree with this or not-

* the same age old surati accent and innumerable abuses in a single line- anyone in the state atleast can make out a surati from any other just be talking to him!
* the registered trademark way of spittin pan or gutka anywhere and everwhere between the two fingers held in 'V' shape on lips
* the ever jolly attitude and care free but helping nature
* shops opening late at 11 in morning then two hour lunch break in afternoon and then early closure after seven or so
* sunday means to spend what you earn in the weekdays and you cant even find a crocin or a recharge voucher on sundays and festivals-true spirit of celebrating non working days!
* no one knows what the white lines on roads are, what traffic sense is. the person in white if he stops you just pay in 40-50 bucks and zoom off!
* however rich we are we will remain modest wit our clothes-wear highly emroidered jeans(to help the embroidery units you see!) with big monkey wash patches and will always bargain or fight with the poor auto driver for a rupee
* style for a boy- big colored hair, great bike, stunts on dumas road,a girlfriend
* style for a girl-straight blonde hair, ultra slim body and tight variably faded jeans, variety of bike drivers(boyfriends) and chatter chatter
* we will not look beyond south gujarat university to send our kids for higher education
* we will eat a highly oiled 'locho' or jalebi after walking a mere km in chowpatty or SVR
* we will never compromise with the brand of tobacco we usually eat
* vanita vishram is our favorite all time place for melas and shows
* people make romance on roads and in public places and if we lack a spouse to do so we detour our enjoyment in seeing them at chowpatty. lake view, dumas or any other and still expect our children will never do this and commet this media and western culture spoiling our traditions
* we'll feel proud of surat, its diamond industry, its flyovers and infrastructure as if we have made it with our own mastermind

well what changes and what not depends on We the people. The world today is changing very rapidly. today theres something new in life and tomorrow it becomes outdated. What as individuals have to realize is to live life to the maximum and enjoy it to the fullest without disturbing the basic requirements of the human body and its society..
